Our Science

We use a combination of imaging, biochemical, and sequencing tools to understand the biology of focal amplifications in cancer. We are particularly interested in the unique biology of amplifications encoded on extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA). Our goal is to integrate experimental data with data from patient tumors to :

  • understand the crosstalk between focal amplifications and genome instability

  • identify new therapeutic targets for cancers with focal amplifications

  • elucidate how focal amplifications drive cancer evolution

  • discover the mechanisms driving the unique epigenetic landscape of ecDNA

  • develop diagnostic tools for detecting ecDNA in tumors
